Dear Anran and Anran's parents,

Anran had another excellent lesson tonight.

When Anran is in class, she works very hard to follow instructions from myself and the exercises we are doing and her results are very good.

Unfortunately, Anran's recent homework assignments are not reaching up to her potential (she is a very intelligent girl) and she is not completing her homework successfully. Her results are below grade level. She is quite capable of doing much better.

During today's lesson, we once again reviewed homework completion success strategies (which she wrote in her notebook) and I have asked Anran to work hard on her homework and she will achieve much better marks. She said that she will work hard and review her notebook for the success strategies before she starts her homework.

You can do it, Anran! Thank you.

For today's lesson, we reviewed Anran's homework and we also reviewed this week's homework and my expectations: Lesson 30 - U2W5 - Jul 10 - In Class/Homework - Weekly Test.  

We covered the following Instruction and Test-taking strategies for success:

It was very nice to see Anran this evening. She seems very happy to be on her Summer holidays!

Anran had another excellent English language lesson today. She followed lesson instructions very well, she worked on speaking in full sentences and did a great job, and she worked hard to understand all the challenging Grammar concepts we covered today. Wonderful!

Anran had another excellent English language lesson today. She once again worked hard throughout the lesson and participated very well.

We also talked about Anran's homework assignments. Anran is doing the Extra Homework and not doing the Homework Assignments. She says she now understands that she must do the Homework Assignments first and if she would like to do the Extra Homework, she can do it second. It's good extra practice for her.

Dear Anran and Anran's parents,

It was very nice to see Anran today. She had a very good English language lesson.

Anran submitted her homework very late (just before class) so we needed to use much of today's lesson to evaluate her homework together.

Unfortunately, we did not have time to complete all that I had planned for Anran's lesson.

Can Anran please complete and submit her homework the day before her lesson (Tuesday) or earlier?

Dear Anran's parents,

Anran had another excellent English language lesson today. With prompting, she was able to complete all the work I planned for her.

I will continue to focus on Anran's speaking skills and help encourage her to speak with confidence. I know she is shy but she is so intelligent and I am sure she has so much to share with others.

For today's lesson, we focused on Anran's test-taking strategies and her anchor charts. We did not have time to complete Lesson 23 - Task 1 - U2L6 - In Class - A Tree Full of Life.

Dear Anran's parents,

Anran worked very hard throughout today's lesson.

Unfortunately, Anran did not have many of the anchor charts that we needed to work on today and it made the lesson much more challenging.

Can you please print out the anchor charts that Ms. Ling sends you? They are important for Anran's learning progress and overall learning success. Your strong involvement in Anran's learning is very much appreciated.

Anchor charts are important for Anran to refer to when she is working on school work or my homework assignments. Thank you very much.

An anchor chart binder, using plastic page protectors for the anchor charts, is recommended, and would help Anran keep her anchor charts organized and thus much easier for her to locate and to access the knowledge she is referencing for her learning success. 

Also, can you please have Anran complete only the homework I assign her each week. I assign the homework based on the knowledge Anran is learning from the lessons the homework is assigned from. Thank you.

Doing homework from future lessons can confuse Anran's learning as lessons are based upon 'scaffolded' learning; which means knowledge learned in one lesson, is built upon in each following lesson. Thank you very much for your understanding and assistance.

Dear Anran's parents,

Anran is an excellent reader. She is very fluent when she reads and her pronunciation of vocabulary she is very clear and accurate. Well done, Anran.

I would encourage that Anran uses her English-Chinese translator whenever she does not understand words that she is reading.

I would also encourage Anran to complete her homework. The homework assignments are based on each lesson's curriculum knowledge and homework completion will help Anran learn the English language better and more quickly.

Anran has not completed her homework for two weeks now and her English language learning progress is developing slowly.

Completing her homework will significantly help Anran.

Dear Anran and Anran's parents,

It was very nice to meet Anran for the first time today. She was a joy to teach. She is a very respectful and intelligent young lady, and she worked hard throughout the class.

I informally assessed her throughout the lesson and my focus will be to help Anran strengthen her understanding (knowledge acquisition), communication, and proficieny (levels) in the English language. All language components will be addressed throughout Anran's lessons: speaking, listening, reading, and grammar.

Dear Anran's Parents,

Today's lesson focused on highlighting the main parts of an expository text, entitled How Families Work. This was done through a fictious story about how a family works together and identifies family needs versus family wants.

There were new words which were examined before reading the text, such as check, choose and chores. As well, there were comprehension questions to determine if Anran was able to understand the meaning and how to properly use these new words.

Anran was able to answer many of the questions quite accurately. For instance, she was able to share very excellent synonyms of the new words, such as chores, where she shared the word housework. Moreover, her ability to  correctly answer the questions was most pronounced when answering the grammar questions towards the end of the class.

Anran did very well in the lesson.

Dear Anran's Parents,

During the lesson we studied the informational text entitled, People Helping Whales. This included answering comprehension questions about the book, examining the pictures, discussing the importance of using the glossary and more.

Anran was able to read and speak with very good fluency in the lesson. Her pronunciation was quite accurate throughout the lesson.

Additionally, she was able to answer many of the grammar questions correctly in the class.
This was also quite good.

Anran spoke very well in our class today.

Dear Anran's Parents,

In class we studied about caring for animals.
The lesson content was focused on a nonfictional narrative about how a boy name Jack cares for his horse, named Pepper.

Throughout the lesson Anran was able to read and speak with excellent pronunciation. There were some minor errors that she made pronouncing some words. However, she was quick to make corrections when asked to do so.

Moreover, there were new words that we studied in the lesson, such as wild and roam. Anran was able to correctly answer the comprehension questions about these new vocabulary items during the lesson.

Additionally, she was able to accurately complete the grammar activities and rightly distinguish the long a and short a sounds of various words.

Anran spoke very well in the lesson.

Dear Anran's Parents,

In the class today we studied the short story, A New Home for Henry. This included reading the story, identifying the characters, setting and plot. As well as summarizing the events of the story.

Anran was able to summarize the story contents in a very succinct manner. Additionally, she was able to accurately answer many of the questions about the literary devices in the secondary poem that we read, My Best Friend Forever.

Anran did very well in the class and was able to fluently discuss and highlight the story contents. Moroever, she was able to correctly answer the Grammar Practice questions that we completed which required her to identify the subject in various sentences.

Dear Anran's Parents,

During the lesson we studied new words, a short story, Finding Cal, and some phonics worksheets

This included discussing the story content, literary devices, and various questions about the story.

While studying the new words, there were many questions about the words and how to use them in a proper context. 

There were questions associated to the new words that Anran seemed hesitant to answer. Although her teacher does not want her to feel uncomfortable answering questions, many of these questions are aimed at helping her increasing  her English fluency. That is the intent of them. If she does not want to provide personal specifics, she could answer the questions in a general way and not necessarily about her personally. But answering them would be to her benefit and help her to increase her English abilities.

That being said, many of the other questions Anran answered correctly and she did very well in the class.

Dear Anran's Parents,

In the class today we studied the historical fiction shortstory entitled, Happy New Year! The story contained new words which we began to study last week.

Throughout the class Anran was able to answer many of the questions about the storybook correctly. As well, she made very few pronunciation errors while reading the text.

Something that her teacher mentioned was the importance of using either a rising voice, that shows and excited emotion or an angry voice while reading sentences which have an exclamation mark.

Anran also answered many of the grammar questions in the class correctly.

She did great in the lesson

Dear Anran's Parents,

During the class today we finished Little Flap Learns to Fly and the discussion about the story. This included highlighting the genre of the story, characters, problems in the story and the like.

Then, we proceeded to study the short story, The Quest. This was followed up by answering questions about the short story and comparing it to poem, Together.

Throughout the lesson Anran was able to accurately answer most of the questions. Furthermore, she read with natural sounding pronunciation, and only required minimal correction from her teacher in reading and speaking.

Additionally, she was able to correctly answer the grammar questions at the end of the class.

Anran did great in the lesson today.
