It is wonderful seeing Michael again. He is a very talented student. 

Michael was very actively engaged in his learning of new knowledge. Additionally, despite not reading the online reading passage before class, he was able to comprehend and pick up the main ideas and details quickly.

WHAT WE COVERED IN TODAY'S CLASS


In today's lesson, we covered the following literacy concepts and strategies from Lesson 20 - Grade 3 U2L4 - On-Level Reading - Moving from Mexico:

1) Pre-reading strategies: key conceptual foundation theme
2) Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, context, synonyms and antonyms; similies
3) Reading strategies: decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension
4) Genre historical fiction (Moving from Mexico story) and expository (facts in the Mexican Revolution passage)Genre comparison 
5) Literacy style comparisons (story-telling versus factual accounts)
6) Predictions, pre-reading and during reading
7) Post-reading strategies: summation of reading passage.
8) Making comparisons and text-to-world connections 


PRONUNCIATION

Michael has excellent speaking skills that are developing well. Additionally, there were a few words he needed some guidance with pronouncing such as: chaos, 1911, civil, immigrate, carriage, pod of dolphons
settle, picnic, splashed.


HOMEWORK

Thank Michael for diligently completing last week's homework which we will review in the next class.

For this week's homework could Michael please complete Lesson 20 - U2L4 - Grammar Practice.
