Dear Marquis' parents,

Marquis had another strong English language lesson today. I learned so much from him as well today - all about your pet Praying Mantis! He is so proud of his little brother because he catches so many grasshoppers for the Praying Mantis. Marquis even showed me the Praying Mantis' eggs that it just laid. Incredible! Marquis is such a interesting and intelligent boy and such a joy to teach!

For today's lesson, we reviewed Marquis' homework in detail and we also covered Lesson 10 - Task 1 - U1L7 - 'Inventing Something New'.  

We covered the following literacy concepts:

1) Pre-reading strategies: text-to-self connections and predictions

2) Key / New vocabulary

3) Reading strategies: Articulation & Enunciation and accurately Decoding challenging vocabulary

4) Summarize: Cause & Effect Chart

5) Ask & Answer strategies (text evidence)

6) Genre: Biography

7) Metaphors
