Your children are such a joy to teach. They all have a wonderful sense of humour, they are very intelligent, and they work hard. They all had another very strong English language lesson today.

For today's lesson, we reviewed your children's Anchor Chart binders (thank you very much to the parents who are printing out the Anchor Charts and keeping their children's binders up to date - this learning resource is being used every lesson and your children are significantly benefiting - at school and with me - from the very important literacy knowledge these binders contain. Thank you!), and we also covered Lesson 8 - Task 1 - U3L8 - Your Turn.

We focused on the following literacy concepts:

1) Key/New vocabulary - synonyms (words and phrases) and definitions

2) Reading strategies: context clues, key vocabulary, key details, and comprehension

3) Genre: Biography

4) Author's Point of View

5) Text Features: title, special (bold) print, picture (photograph), captions

6) Primary and Secondary Source

7) Latin and Greek Suffixes and Prefixes

Dear parents,

It was so nice to see your children again after the long holiday break. Throughout today's lesson, your children were all actively participating and engaged; motivated to succeed in their learning; and they tried their very best, which is all we can ask of them. They are all a joy to teach. 

For today's lesson, we reviewed some of the homework they submitted over the holiday break. We also reviewed their Anchor Chart binders. Finally, we worked on Lesson 7 - Task 1 - U3L7 - Abe's Honest Words.

We focused on the following literacy concepts:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key/New vocabulary - synonyms and definitions

3) Reading strategies: articulation & enunciation, fluency, decoding, and comprehension

4) Genre: Biography

5) Point of View: Narrator and Author

***Unfortunately, we could not cover suffixes and prefixes today because they did not have the Anchor Charts I sent them. 

Dear parents: can you please print out all the Anchor Charts you are sent, place them in plastic page protectors (for longevity), and then into their Anchor Chart binders. We will use the binders every class and the Anchor Charts are valuable knowledge keepers for your children's continual reference, knowledge reinforcement, and overall learning success.

Anchor Charts are used by classroom teachers for this very purpose (you've probably noticed them displayed around the classroom for the students easy reference).

Providing an Anchor Chart binder, with plastic page protectors, would ensure the Anchor Charts' longevity and usefulness. Thank you very much.

Dear parents,

For today's lesson, we reviewed your children's homework (Lesson 20 - Task 2 - U2L10 - Homework - Literacy: p.91, p.93-96, and p.98), which took up most of today's lesson. The concepts we covered were challenging and needed detailed and thorough instruction. 

I will need to send you information (Anchor Charts) for your children to use during our lessons. These Anchor Charts will significantly assist your children in their learning of challenging literacy concepts. I will ask Ms. Ling to pass these Anchor Charts on to you.

Please keep these Anchor Charts protected in binders so that they do not get lost or damaged. Thank you so much.  

Today, we focused on the following literacy concepts:

2) Elements of Poetry: Meter, Stanza, Lines, and Rhyming Scheme

'If the word is in the text - in front of your eyes - it should always be spelt correctly.'

Today was a 'holiday' lesson for Serena so are work was at a thorough but relaxing pace and we covered all the curriculum points that were planned. As always, Serena is such a pleasure to teach.

For today's lesson (May.13th). We reviewed Serena's dictionary homework submission as well as worked on Lesson 1, Task 1 - U3L1 - The Cricket.

We covered the following literacy concepts:

1) Text Feature - Illustrations - Predicting Story Plot Details using careful analysis. 

2) In Character Voice - voice determination using illustrations, type of animal, and context clues.

3) New Vocabulary

4) Serena's Dictionary Addition: include Chinese translations in word and sentence.
