Dear Michael's parents,

It is always so nice to see Michael. He was coughing a lot during class today so I hope he is okay and feels better soon. He says that he is okay, thank goodness.

Michael worked hard throughout today's lesson, as he always does, and was very eager to share his prior English knowledge. He did so with a high degree of accuracy. He also was very actively engaged in his learning of new knowledge.

Michael is such a joy to teach!

For today's lesson, we reviewed Michael's anchor charts and we also covered Lesson 11 - Task 1 - U1L8 - In Class - The Amazing Benjamin Franklin.  

We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: fluency, decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Biography

5) Text Features: pictures (photographs, illustrations, and paintings) and table of contents

6) Glossary: key vocabulary, phonetic spelling, and definitions

7) Index: key topics and page locations within the text

8) Important Chinese Inventors and Inventions

9) Figurative Language: Homonyms
