Dear James' parents,

I am finding that James is becoming less and less engaged during our lessons. I was worried about this and spoke Ms. Ling Song today. We had a very productive discussion and developed some optional fun curriculum that may be more joyful and engaging for James. Ms. Ling will be contacting you to discuss these optional curriculum ideas with you. Hopefully you will find these ideas acceptable in helping James reengage with his lessons and to find joy in learning once again. Thank you for all you do for James. He is a dear, sweet boy. I hope we can all help him once again find happiness in learning. Thank you.

For today's lesson, we reviewed James' homework and we also covered Lesson 11 - Task 1 - U4L1 - In Class - Our World, Our Life.

We focused on the following literacy concepts and strategies:

2) Key/New vocabulary - translations, definitions, and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: fluency, decoding, and comprehension

4) Genre: Informational Text

Dear James' parents,

Today was a challenging lesson for James. He was distracted by something he was doing at his desk and it took a significant amount of time for him to complete activities we were working on.

Also, because of this distraction, James had a significant degree of difficulty focusing and understanding the challenging Grammar concept of Past, Present, and Future Verb Tenses.

I would like to ask you to please help James understand the importance of focus and engagement in his English language lessons, for language learning success. Today's lesson was unfortunately a lesson in which James was unable to effectively acquire important foundational language knowledge. Thank you.

For today's lesson, we reviewed James' homework as well as his Anchor Chart binder. We also covered Lesson 7 - Task 1 - U3L7 - In Class - Weather Affects Us.

4) Genre: Expository Text

5) Mind Map / Idea Web: Types of Weather

6) Verb Tenses (very difficult for James)

***Dear parents: can you please print out James evaluated homework assignment (Lesson 6 - Task 2 - U3L6 - Homework - Grammar) which outlines my specific evaluation, corrections, and comments.

***This print out has valuable information regarding Verb Tenses which may assist James with his understanding as he refers to it in future (along with the Verb Tense in-class work he did, which can be found in his notebook).

Thank you very much.

Dear James' parents,

James had a very good English language lesson today. This Unit 3 G2 Wonders curriculum is much more manageable for James. He was able to understand today's readings with much more success. This curriculum is much more in accordance with where he is at with his English language proficiency. I asked him what was his favorite English language book and he showed me his book on 'The Solar System'! We talked about space a lot today, which was so helpful with extending his English conversation and vocabulary skills. He also had access to his Chinese-English translator and his Anchor Chart binder (thank you!), which helped him a great deal. Super!

For today's lesson, we reviewed James' Anchor Chart binder and we also covered Lesson 1 - Task 1 - U3L1 - In Class - Live and Learn.

We focused on the following literacy concepts:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key/New vocabulary - translations, synonyms, and definitions

3) Reading strategies: articulation & enunciation, fluency, decoding, and comprehension

4) Genre: Expository (Informational) Text
