Dear Michael's parents,

Michael had a fantastic English language lesson today! I was testing him on so many literacy concepts, randomly asking him questions, and he would stop, think, understand, find the knowledge, and communicate this knowledge with me. He was successful most of the time, my gosh! I am so proud of Michael's English language progress and I know you must be proud of him, too.

For today's lesson, we  covered Lesson 17 - Task 1 - U4L2 - Rocky Mountain National Park.  

We focused on the following literacy concepts:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key/New vocabulary

3) Reading strategies: Articulation & Enunciation, Fluency, Decoding, and Comprehension

4) Genre: Expository/Informational Text 

5) Text Features: Special Print, Caption, Photograph, Illustrations, Maps, Keys, Compass Rose, Glossary, Index, Table of Contents, Diagram, Graphic

p.s.: I just researched and found out about Mountain Tai, in Shandong Province (south of Beijing), and it is very beautiful! So many ancient buildings, lovely natural scenery, and a long history. Wow! Thank you to Michael for helping to teach me about Mountain Tai!
