1. Moria is one of the ancient homes of the dwarves. It was inhabited during the events of the Hobbit (featuring Bilbo). But Moria is no longer filled with dwarves, it has been a long time since one had been there. Gimli is eager to rediscover Moria and hopefully awaken it again. However, the others are less blind and are cautious.

2. Bill is unable to go through Moria, as there are stairs, steep places, and others. Plus, it is dangerous in there, and I think that Sam would rather let Bill go than see him die.

3. The Company waits as Gandalf tries to get the keyword so the Doors will open. Once that is done, they find that the Orcs had driven the dwarves out (or killed them), even though Balin came here many years ago with the same goal as Gimli: to somehow reclaim the lost land.

4. Mithril is some type of silver that's only found in Moria. Even though it was the dwarves' doom, it was still priceless. Mithril is even more priceless now that almost no one ever goes into Moria now.

5. They were driven out, or killed. Balin came after a while, but he and his crew were cornered and killed.

6. Bilbo gave Frodo some gifts that helped him protect himself. Sting is a sword that glows whenever Orcs are near (At least, that's what I remember). His mithril shirt will turn most blades, but he will still feel the impact, but it won't kill him, it just depends on what blade it is. Flaming sword? It'll probably give him a burn. Regular knife? Nothing, just a very ugly bruise.

7. They wandered through Moria, with enemies in the way (I literally have no idea how Frodo managed to survive except the fact that he has high-level gear). After wandering through for some time, they were attacked by the Orcs. Gandalf says that the chance to reclaim Moria was over, and they journeyed until they came across a Balrog, and Gandalf had to sacrifice himself so the others could keep going. The remains of the Company went through the East Doors of Moria to escape.

9. The Elves don't trust the Dwarves, since they were the ones who found the New Evil in the first place. (The Elves don't know it was accidental, though.)

10. Moria is underground, while Lothlorien is not. Lothlorien is a forest, while Moria is a cave. Moria is abandoned, but Lothlorien is not. Yet there were both homes to magical creatures.
