We finished the review of adding, subtracting, and multiplying. We start division next week.
Haoming has some really great strategies, including applying facts that he has memorized to facts that are close.

May 21st
Working on making multiplication stories, and touched on the reciprical rule--which we will continue to work on.
Haoming was 20 minutes late, so with the remaining 25 minutes, we did a review subtraction question, and started on the multiplication unit.
May 14th
We are continuing to work on 2 digit subtraction with regrouping. He's almost there--but he's having trouble transferring what we do with the ten frames and the base ten blocks to the standard notation. It's important that he keeps his eyes on the screen while we do it, and leaves his toys away during math class.
May 5th
Today we worked on adding and subtracting word problems to 40. I don't want to assign them for homework, because Haoming isn't independent with them yet. For homework he should practice just simple subtraction 2 digit by two digit with regrouping--using the base ten blocks to model the questions.
April 30--first half of the session was absorbed dealing with technical issues--Haoming's sound wasn't working.

April 23rd
Today in class Haoming stopped participating at about 6:10. When I asked him what he was doing, he said he was doing his math homework for school, and that his mom said he had to get it done. I told him that his mom probably didn't want him to do it during class, but he said that his mom didn't clarify, so he thinks he is allowed. I don't acutally mind helping him with his math homework if they upload it and send it to me, but I'm not sure his mom wants to pay me to sit there and watch him write something I can't see--so maybe she should clarify this rule with Haoming.
April 9th--homework--Haoming is to do a tally chart with 5 different categories for different kinds of toys he has in his house. He needs some practice with using and counting tally marks.

Homework (Week of Feb 13 - Feb 29)
Hi Ethan,
This activity (lesson 35, task 2) is quite long. It has 36 pages but each page only has a few questions with pictures on it. Most of this activity is very easy for you, but is great for practicing groups of tens and ones. You can complete 6-7 pages each day and you will be done in no time.
Thank you and Happy Chinese New Year!
Ms. Katie.
Hi Ethan,
We will do this activity (Lesson 34, task 2) together in class.

Hi Ethan,
The textbook reading for this unit is very short (2 pages). Please read the two textbook pages and complete the homework activity (task 2). They are both quite easy and we will review halves and quarters in class on Saturday.
Thanks and have a great week!
