May 2nd--started subtraction, finished first 3 questions.
September 14th--we finished the review. For homework, I assigned the homework from the money section which I don't think he did originally, and he needs more practice with. On Thursday, we will start the end test.
August 24--reviewed using the 100s chart to subtract 2 digit numbers with regrouping.
August 17--based on homework results and Haoming's feedback in class, we spent time reviewing addition and subtraction questions with regrouping to 100. Haoming has developed a good counting on and back strategy that allows him to move on without the base ten blocks.
I think we can start money on Friday.
August 13--we reviewed all of Haoming's homework, which he had had trouble with. He knows the math, but struggled reading the questions independently and keeping straight the multi step problems. For homework tonight, I told him to print out the same homework again and redo it independently, now that we had gone over the solutions.
August 5
Today we went through Haoming's homework, and reviewed the parts he had trouble with. For homework this weekend, he should redo pages 152 and 153
August 3
Today we practiced 2 digit subtraction with regrouping. We used 100s charts, base ten blocks, and we touched on using open number lines to count backwards by 10s and 1s. Haoming can subtract with regrouping as long as he can use the blocks. The counting backwards strategies are still a work in progress--but that's appropriate for Haoming's grade level.
July 27
Continued working on subtraction strategies--counting backwards by 10s and ones, and regrouping. I think we need another class on subtraction.
Haoming should continue to work through the homework section of this lesson. z
July 23
Worked on subtraction strategies--regrouping and counting backwards by 10s, using 100 chart to count backwards and base ten blocks for regrouping. One more day on subtraction and regrouping is appropriate.
July 20th
Working on addition without regrouping, addition with regrouping, subtraction without regrouping, and then we started subtraction with regrouping. Haoming whizzed through everything except the subtraction with regrouping, so that's what we will focus on on Friday. Haoming reports that he didn't do any homework on the weekend, so I didn't assign any new homework--just keep working away at the first 6 pages of the homework from lesson 39.
July 16th--today we focused on counting on on a 100s chart, and using counting on and part whole strategies to add.--His homework is the first 6 pages of the homework site--he didn't do any yesterday, so start from the beginning.
July 15th--today we started working on numbers to 100. Haoming was a little unsettled, but remembered a lot about place value. tomorrow we will start the order of numbers portion. He can do the first 2 pages of the homework tonight if he has the energy.
July 6th homework--finish to the end of the challenge.
Haoming is still a little inconsistent with the half past--he forgets if the hour hand is a little after the hour or before the hour, and sometimes guesses. He is fully consistent with the even hours.
July 2nd--Working on Time on analog clocks to the half hour--do the last two pages for homework. He's pretty much got it now, so I think we can move on next week.
Today we worked on telling time with digital and analog clocks to the even hour, and we started the half hours. Haoming got the even hours very quickly, so next class we will work on the half hours. For homework, he can do the first pages of the homework --and do all the even hours but leave the half hour times until tomorrow.
June 11
Today we made it to question 3 part c--we focused on taking sets and dividing them into a determined number of groups--divide 20 into 5 groups--how many are in each group? We talked about how Haoming could use his leggos to practice this with manipulatives, and we did it by crossing out pictures.
June 16
Today we went over grouping, and reviewed his homework, which has many errors. His job for tonight is to redo last time's homework, using his blocks to make groups and follow in structions. (divide 15 into 5 groups--how many in each group? show me with the blocks)
Finished to page 2 question 2 in the workbook. haoming has a lot of the math facts memorized, but may need practicing the idea of what grouping means.
