1.) The main protagonist is Josh. Josh's dad is currently being handcuffed and being sent to jail due to him stealing from a bank. I think I would feel pretty worried and sad because who knows how long the dad will be in jail, and he won't be caring for the family until a while.

2.) I think Josh really likes his dad and enjoys having his dad cheer when he scores a basket or encourage him even if he missed. He also is very understanding of what his dad has to do and his work. At the end of the chapter, Josh's dad gets arrested for robbing a bank and I think Josh's opinion of him hasn't changed because he knows his dad wouldn't do that.

3.) I think that the relationship between Nicole and Josh's mother is a very great one because they have been buddies for a very long time and they have great interactions. I think that because Josh and his mother have never met Holly before, it might be somewhat awkward for them since they have never spoke before, or they might start talking about common hobbies.

4.) In chapter 4, the book describes the weather as very long and hot summers with basically no rain. I think that this could create a drought and will increase the probability of a wildfire because of the heat.

1.) Festus ends up dying due to him not believing Tata's words about the volcano going to erupt and did not see the incoming giant fireball hurdling towards them, and ended up getting crushed by the huge rock. This makes me feel happy for the slaves because of the ruthless things that Festus had done to them, and knowing that they probably won't have to endure the same painful experience again is reassuring, although seeing a crushed body with your own eyes is disgusting.

2.) Outside, it probably looks very dark and the air would smell like burnt toast. There also would be some rumbling in the ground and maybe some ashes falling from the sky. (insert image)

3.) The statue of Mercury was pointing at the floor tiles with a small gap inbetween two of them. The special meaning behind this is that there was a secret passageway underneath these tiles and the tunnel led outside the city of Pompeii.

4.) When Marcus and Tata succesfully escape Pompeii, they meet their horse Peg waiting and they rode off to Rome. I think that once they get to Rome, they could either be treated with good food, medicine, and a home, or they might be turned into slaves again which is not a good outcome.

Book Review: Something I found very interesting in this book is the plot writing. From the start, the book will recap some of the storyline at the end of the book and then talk about what one of the main characters, Marcus; was doing and explained the surrounding and setting around him very well. We then get a foreshadow and get to meet the second main character; Tata. For the next few chapters, the book explains and shows how brilliant Marcus was and how he saves his dad; Tata from the somewhat narcissistic villian; Festus. The book then goes on to show how Marcus and Festus bond together after not seeing eachother in such a long time and really makes like these two in the story. This part also shows that both are still very caring people even to the city that treated them as slaves and gives good character development for Marcus. The last few chapters is a very good ending for the book as it was Tata who warned everyone in the city that the mountain Vesuvius was about to erupt. Then finally we get to see the antagonist get destroyed and the two protagonists escape and find their way to Rome.

1.) Smoke is coming from the volcano and beneath the surface and it is causing the air to be unbreathable. I think everyon should cover their mouth and nose with a cloth or their shirt while getting to somewhere safe.

2.) Peg didn't want to keep going up the mountain because he sensed that there was something wrong with the air and the mountain was abnormal. There was also dead animals which had no wounds which could make Peg scared. I would react the same since who would really want to go up a active volcano after seeing and smelling smoke in the air as well as rumbling beneath you.

3.) Tata knows that mountains aren't solid rocks and that there are gases, fire and melted rock. He knows this because he had read it in a book Virgil wrote about a mountain in Greece.

4.) When Marcus and Tata try to warn people about the erupting volcano, nobody listens to them as they think that they are just some poor slaves that want to spread misinformation or say this as a joke. But then when the volcano finally erupts, everybody agreed with Tata that they should run as they can see it for themselves.

5.) I think that the connection between fear and bravery is that in order to be brave and courageous, you need to first overcome your fears and admit it.

1.) Festus had sold Tata to the gladiators to compete against the Cyclops. My opinion on selling people to others is that it is a very cruel and disgusting thing. I think everybody should be able to walk around freely and not be captured and forced to be given to other people while being treated harshly.

2.) Marcus wanted to save Tata and thought of a plan. He decided that he would disguise himself as a rich romans son and wear Festus's toga so he could get to Tata without getting suspicion. Then Marcus needed a weapon, he snatched an old mans snake basket and ran through the crowd with it. Finally, he crept closer toward the paraders just when the lanista recognized Marcus, he threw the bin full of snakes at the lanista. Then the lanista and the guards all ran as they were scared of the cobra and Marcus succesfully got to Tata and saved him. I think I would have definitely also tried to save Tata, but I don't think I would have created such a genius plan and might have gotten myself in worse trouble.

3.) When the lanista recognized Marcus, Marcus threw a basket of cobras at her and veered everyones attention from him and they all ran away in fear. I learned that Marcus has very intelligent thinking and can make a great plan under stress and not much time. This shows that Marcus' determination is amazing and inspiring, so he will always find a way.

4.) When Marcus and Tata were in the mountain, Marcus worries that the gladiators will come find them and take then back to Pompeii. I think I would also be worried since they just escaped from the guards of Pomepeii and they wouldn't just let some slaves escape this easily.

5.)I think that the enslaved should not act with violence since they are most likely to get punished very harshly or could get their life taken. Instead, I think that they should try their best to leave without notifiying their masters but even this is very risky since if you get caught, you will most likely get punished.

1.) The name of the main character is Marcus

2.) There was going to be more work for Marcus and the other slaves because their Master, Festus Julius, was inviting guests over to have a feast. In order to impress his friends, Festus forces the slaves to make sure the palace was extra clean and was perfect, otherwise the slaves would most likely get punished.

3.) The old lady warns Marcus about the doom of Pompeii and tells him, "When hope is lost, follow the hand of Mercury." This old lady is trying to tell Marcus that in the future, during the eruption of Vesuvius(Marcus doesn't know this), they will have to go to where the hand of Mercury points and uncover the secret passageway that leads them out of the city.

4.) When Marcus sees Tata dressed in armour and in the line of the gladiator parade, he realizes that his father was going to be sent in the arena to fight for his life. Knowing that his dad will most likely die in the battles, he tries to find a solution to get him out of fighting. His solution to this was ingenius and it involved disguising himself as a son of a rich person by wrapping Festus' toga around him. He then grabbed a basket with a giant snake and ran toward the parade, then dumping the snake onto the lanista which scared all the guards to run away. This finally gave Marcus and Tata the opportunity to run away and climb the mountain.
