Apr 15 Students were introduced to fables and answered questions about fables. They read a short fable and wrote the moral or lesson. 

Reviewed summarizing with students and they summarized a fable using a graphic organizer; they then wrote the moral of the fable in their own words.

Students planned their own fable using a story map and then wrote their fable with beginnig, middle and end as well as moral of their fable.

A creative writing prompt on "living underwater" was assigned as homework.

Apr 8  Students learned about rhythm in poetry by reading a poem aloud and clapping along to the beat of the poem, then answering questions about how the rhythm changes from stanza to stanza and how this changes the mood of the poem.

Students did descripitive writing where they had to think of an exciting moment in their life and draw a picture or write sensory words about their exciting moment and use these supporting details to write a paragraph about their exciting moment.

Students continued descriptive writing by imagining their best Easter egg and writing about what it would look like with as many descriptive details as possible.

Homework was a creative writing exercise where students had to write about their most memorable Easter.

April 1 The students learned about character development where they described pictures of five characters, writing five traits about each character. They then chose one of the characters, named the character, and wrote about what the character is doing and what the character would be doing the next day. Students then did an exercise on imagery in poetry where they read a poem then drew a picture about the poem and wrote descriptive words about their picture. An exercise on acrostic poetry was assigned as homework where students have to write a seasonal acrostic poem using the first letters of the word SPRING.
