About this course

This course is designed to support a heightened understanding of media sources, formal writing, and critical thought.

Course goals include:

  • Students become more aware of the world, themselves
  • Students learn to appreciate media in its many forms
  • Students learn how to navigate sophisticated nonfiction
  • Students practice viewing resources with a critical stance
  • Students write across a number of prose forms (i.e. essay, speech)

Group Classes include:

  • Powerpoint of all relevant material (uploaded to portal)
  • Pre-recorded video and pre-class activities
  • 20-30 minute in-class teaching component (explanations)
  • Class discussion, activities, examination of best practices
  • Writing assignments of 300-400 words
  • Preparation for end of class project

Indvidual Classes allow for:

  • Examine topics in more depth; research
  • Edit writing assignments together
  • Vocabulary and grammar questions
  • Activities that deepen student writing ability
  • Assist with class project preparation
