Dear Michael's parents,

It was fantastic seeing Michael on Sunday, and to see him so focused and intent on learning, despite having such a demanding homework and school schedule. It's a testament to his resilience and intelligence! Well done! As usual, Michael picked up the main ideas quickly, and did so with a high degree of accuracy. Great work, Michael!

WHAT WE COVERED IN TODAY'S CLASS

In today's lesson, first, we reviewed the use of commas correctly in "dates" and addresses" as it troubled Michael in his homework from last week. Following that, we explored the following literacy concepts and strategies from Grade 3, Lesson 28  - U2L9 - Saving Animals (Read and Write):

(1) Key conceptual foundation themes: identification, clues pre-reading and post-reading
(2) Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, context, synonyms and antonyms
(3) Genre study of poetry: Limerick 利默里克 rhyme 押韵, alliteration, and free verse (not rhyme 押韵)
(4) Idiomatic and figurative phrases: figure out, work out, bugged, cold feet 
(5) Literacy devices of comparisons: simile (using "like" and "as"), figures of speech, personification (making human-like e.g. "the sun smiled"), animalization (making animal-like, e.g. “My washing machine is a bear").

HOMEWORK

For homework if Michael has time, could he please complete the following:

(1) Lesson 28 - U2L9 - Phonics & Spelling Practice, and

(2) Before our next class, pre-read the two reading passages in Lesson 29 - U2L10 - The Long Walk, On-Level Reading, which will be for our next class.
