Dear Michael's parents,

It is always wonderful to have a class together with Michael. Michael is an unbelievably, hard-working and talented student.

We covered a lot of ground today, including a review of the last two weeks of homework which Michael diligently did. As usual, he was very actively engaged in his learning of new knowledge.

Well done, Michael! Keep up the great work!

WHAT WE COVERED IN TODAY'S CLASS

In today's lesson, we covered the following literacy concepts and strategies from

Lesson 22 - Grade 3 U2L5 - Read and Write - U2L5 - Our voices Count:

1) Pre-reading strategies: key conceptual foundation and themes
2) Review of Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, context, synonyms, antonyms; similies.
3) Reading strategies: decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension
4) Sequential Order: first, then, finally
5) Genre expository, an informatory piece giving facts
6) Literacy style comparisons
7) Understanding & identifying the author's point of view
8) Post-reading strategies: summation of reading passage and key ideas
9) Making comparisons: text-to-self and text-to-world connections
10) Vocabulary Strategy: use and identification of prefixes

EXTENSION WORK

To supplement the curriculum we also explored and produced new phrases verbal phrases, and collocations, coupled with idiomatic and figurative phrases including the following listed below.

- My point of view is not the same as the author.
- Another example is we shouldn't take
   others people's things.
- When we vote, we are making a decision.
- A highlight this week was when
I went on a long run.
- I had a busy week; it was a HECTIC week.
- The main take-aways I got from this unit are
(The main things I learned) voting is important
   and how people vote.

ENUCIATION

Michael's enuciation on the whole was excellent. However, he needed occasional guidance in the pronunciation of a handful of words such as "guinea pig" and some long e vowel (ea and ee) words where he had to differentiate between - creek, beak, and steak; squeaks, square and speaks.

HOMEWORK

For homework, could Michael please complete Lesson 22 - U2L5 - Phonics and Spelling Practice if he had time and was not under too much stress.

Additionally, if possible Michael could also do the Lesson 21 - U2W2 - Weekly Test.

Again, only if Michael can and has the time.

Have a wonderful week ahead and I look forward to seeing Michael again.

Warm wishes, and all the best for Michael and the entire family.

Kind regards,
Teacher Philip.
