Dear Marquis' parents,
It was a joy watching Marquis' videos with him today. He was very happy explaining the videos to me. His English conversational skills are significantly improving, which is wonderful. All the conversation practice he does with me during our lessons is helping him refine his thoughts and communication in a much more succinct, accurate, and expeditious manner. I am very proud of Marquis' English language progress. Thank you very much for all your support of Marquis' learning and for also sharing Marquis' videos with me. I enjoy watching them very much!
For today's lesson, we reviewed Marquis' homework as well as his Anchor Chart binder. We also covered Lesson 25 - Task 1 - U4L7 - In Class - Up, Up, and Away.
We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:
1) Pre-reading strategies: identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections
2) Key / New vocabulary: translation, definition, and synonym
3) Reading strategies: fluency, decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension
4) Genre: Expository Text
5) Text Features: diagram, labels, illustrations, photographs, captions, subtitles, special print (bold, big text, color, highlight), bullets (sequenced information, instructions, point-form)
