Dear parents,
Today's lesson covered a very challenging curriculum unit on Poetry. This literay genre is one of the most difficult for students to comprehend and Anchor Charts are a key learning tool for this unit. All your children had the many Anchor Charts that I sent you to support today's lesson. Fantastic! I wish to thank you all very much for your wonderful support of your children's learning progress and of my extensive lesson planning for your children's English language academic success. They all work so hard and they do want to learn, which is wonderful, and much of that is thanks to you. Again, thank you!
For today's lesson, we reviewed your children's Anchor Chart binders as well as covered Lesson 19 - Task 1 - U4L9 - In Class - Swimming to the Rock.
We focused on the following literacy concepts and literary elements:
1) Pre-reading strategies: identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections
2) Key/New vocabulary - definitions and synonyms
3) Reading strategies: fluency, decoding, pace, intonation, inflection, rhythm, voice, and comprehension
4) Genre: Poetry
5) Literary Elements: rhyme, repetition, rhyme scheme, stanza, and lines
6) Types of Poems: Rhyming, Repeating, and Free Verse
