Dear Jeff's parents,

Jeff was very excited today when discussing his first two days of school. He clearly is ready to excel this school year and I know he will. You can do it, Jeff!

Also, today was the first lesson for Jeff at the Grade 6 Wonders level! Happy graduation, Jeff, and congratulations!

For today's lesson, we covered Lesson 1 - Task 1 - U1L1 - In Class - Little Blog on the Prairie.  

We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key / New vocabulary: definitions and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: fluency, decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Realistic Fiction and Personal Narrative

5) Figurative Language: alliteration, metaphor, and personification

6) Phrasal Verbs: synonyms

7) Media Literacy: success strategies for Gr.7

8) Conversation/Speaking: evaluating Jeff's progress with the use of filler language and sounds ('like', 'basically', 'uhmm', etc.). There's a noticeable reduction in filler language and sounds and Jeff is progressing well!
