Dear Brian's parents,

It was so nice to see Brian. He seemed very well rested after his nice long two week break. He worked hard throughtout today's lesson. We focused on activating his prior English language knowledge and to communicate this knowledge with accuracy and clarity. By the end of class, his communication skills were becoming more accurate and clear. Wonderful!

For today's lesson, we reviewed Brian's anchor charts and we also covered Lesson 20 - Task 1 - U6L4 - In Class - Helping Me, Helping You!  

We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: pace, fluency, pronunciation, decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Nonfiction and Poetry

5) Text Features: table of contents (title, author, subtitles, chapters, pages, and sometimes, illustrator), pictures (photographs), and captions

6) Author's Point of View or Purpose
