Dear Marquis and Marquis' parents,
Happy Birthday to Marquis' baby brother today! I hope he has a wonderful day.
Marquis had another strong English language lesson today. The lesson was about 'Folktales and Legends' and Marquis taught me about many Chinese legends and folktales. So interesting! He is a very good teacher, too!
For today's lesson, we reviewed Marquis' weekly test homework and we also covered Lesson 2 - Task 1 - U3L2 - In Class - Not From Around Here.
We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:
1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections
2) Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, and synonyms
3) Reading strategies: decoding, context clue, fluency, articulation, enunciation, and comprehension
4) Genre: Folktales (fantasy and legend)
5) Chinese Folktales: Mulan, The Story of Nian, and the Eight Immortals!
6) Point of View: narrator
7) Figurative Language: similes and metaphors
8) Expressions: idioms
