Dear Summer's parents,

Summer had another strong English language lesson today. We worked on extending his learning based on activating prior knowledge and education-based prediction. He was challenged but he was up to the challenge. Well done once again, Summer!

For today's lesson, we reviewed Summer's excellent weekly test homework submission and we also covered Lesson 23 - Task 1 - U4L6 - In Class - The Freedom Machine.  

We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key / New vocabulary: definitions and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: context clues, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Historical Fiction and Expository Text (Informational Text)

5) Synonyms

6) Narrator's Point of View (POV)

7) School Report Card Review - 'Learning Skills and Work Habits':  how to improve his 'Satisfactory' in the areas of Responsibility and Organization.
