Dear Siyuan and Siyuan's parents,
Firstly, thank you so much, Siyuan's mother, for starting the lesson with us and for making it clear what our learning expectations for Siyuan are during our lessons (paying attention and NO online games during class). Wonderful!
Also, thank you very much for having Siyuan apologize for last week's lesson. That was very nice of you to do that with him.
For today's lesson (Jun.28th), we reviewed Siyuan's homework assignment:
Lesson 11 - Task 2 - U1L8 - Jun 21 - Homework - Grammar Review (G5U1W4)
Siyuan is beginning to demonstrate 'Understanding', 'Communication', and 'Application' for some of the challenging Grammar concepts he has had difficulty with:
1) Conjunctions: coordinating, subordinating, and coorelative
2) Sentences: simple, complex, compound, and complex-compound
3) Punctuation: commas
My recommendation for Siyuan is to continue to take his time, think carefully about what the instructions are asking of him, and focus on the Grammar component he is being asked to focus on.
Siyuan should REREAD difficult rules and instructions if he continues to not understand what is being asked of him.
Also, he should research words, rules, and/or instructions that he does not understand ('Google' searches, 'Dictionary.com', etc.).
Once he has done this careful 'thinking' process, then he can 'communicate' and 'apply' the knowledge learned, during class and for his homework, and do so with a higher degree of success.

****IMPORTANT***
For HOMEWORK #2, I have asked Siyuan to finally please organize his Anchor Chart binder.
1) Get Plastic Page Protectors
2) Place Anchor Charts into Page Protectors
3) ORGANIZE and place Protected Anchor Charts into his Anchor Chart Binder
ORGANIZE - Anchor Charts should be categorized into the same Grammar concepts (Siyuan says he has binder 'Dividers' to help him with organization) -
Examples: Punctuation Anchor Charts are together; Conjunction Anchor Charts are together, etc.
The disorganized Anchor Charts, which are piled all around Siyuan's desk, are causing him significant interruptions and scaffold challenges, which are detrimental to his learning success.
Organizing his Anchor Charts will increase the probability of learning success if he is able to quickly and efficiently find the resources (Anchor Charts) that he needs to reinforce his learning.
