Dear Marquis' parents,
Marquis had an excellent English language lesson today. As always, he was fully engaged in the lesson and he was very motivated to succeed in his learning.
He is such a good boy and so intelligent. Thank you for being such positive role models for him. You are definitely wonderful parents and such good people. It's an honor to know you and to teach your dear son.
For today's lesson, we reviewed Marquis' homework and his anchor chart binder. We also covered Lesson 28 - Task 1 - U2L9 - In Class - Creative Leaps.
We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:
1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections
2) Key / New vocabulary: translations, definitions, and synonyms
3) Reading strategies: decoding, context clue, fluency, and comprehension
4) Genre: Poetry
5) Types of Poetry: free verse, rhyming, lyrical, and haiku
6) Elements of Poetry: meter (rhythm and beat) and rhyme
7) Figurative Language: simile and metaphor
8) Types of Words: homonyms (multiple meaning words)
