Dear Marquis' parents,
Marquis had a very good English language learning lesson today. He did well overall in many language components such as speaking and grammar.
However, I do notice that his listening and reading skills are declining in proficiency. This is most likely due to a decline in opportunities to listen to the English language being spoken or heard as well as a decline in reading English language text.
This is probably due to Marquis being very busy with his school work and other extracurricular activities.
I thought it important to inform you this recent English language learning development with Marquis' English language proficiency. Thank you.
For today's lesson, we reviewed Marquis' homework as well as his anchor charts. We also covered Lesson 25 - Task 1 - U2L7 - In Class - Adapting to Survive.
We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:
1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections
2) Key / New vocabulary: translation, definition, and synonym
3) Reading strategies: decoding, context clues, fluency, text features, and comprehension
4) Genre: Expository Text
5) Affixes: prefix and suffix (un-comfort-able / im-pass-able)
6) Open-ended Conversational Practice
7) Focused Discussion: Animal Adaptations
