Dear Summer's parents,

Summer was energetic and engaged throughout today's English language lesson. I consistently challenged his prior understanding of the knowledge that was being scaffolded (utilized) to extend his knowledge into more complex curriculum. He did great!

For today's lesson, we reviewed Summer's exceptional homework submission as well as covered Lesson 7 - Task 1 - U1L5 - In Class - To the Rescue.  

We covered the following literacy concepts and strategies:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key / New vocabulary: definitions and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: fluency, decoding, context clues, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Expository Text

5) Text Features: diagrams, labels, captions, and photographs

6) Venn Diagram: compare and contrast 

7) Geometric Compass: for perfect circles and for map measurements of distance

8) Mind Map / Idea Web: 'Natural Disasters'
