Dear parents,

Once again, all your children had a very good English language lesson today. They were engaged, motivated, and energetic throughout the lesson, especially when I challenged them with literacy questions, from today's reading, which required them to find the answers in their Anchor Chart binders. They are all becoming much more familiar and comfortable in using the binders, with developing success; in comprehension and speed to find knowledge, and accuracy in communicating that knowledge. I am very proud of their growing independence and accountability in their own learning success. Wonderful!

For today's lesson, we reviewed your children's Anchor Chart binders and we also covered Lesson 9 - Task 1 - U3L9 - A New Kind of Corn.

We focused on the following literacy concepts:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key/New vocabulary - synonyms and definitions

3) Reading strategies: context clues, fluency, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Persuasive Article

5) Text Features: Special Print (bold, coloured, highlighted), Photos, Captions, Titles, Subtitles

6) Greek Roots (Affixes = Prefixes & Suffixes)

7) Parts of Speech
