Dear Ryan's parents,

Ryan worked very hard once again throughout today's lesson!

Ryan struggled with his reading today, especially with his decoding of familar words. He said he was tired today, which explains his reading difficulties.

I've encouraged him to continue reading at home and at school so that his reading skills continue to improve. He said he will.

Keep up the good work, Ryan!

For today's lesson, we focused on Ryan's reading skills, once again.

Unfortunately, Ryan did not submit his homework for his Dictionary assignment as well as his Grammar assignment. He said he will contact Ms. Ling to help and I will also contact Ms. Ling to help Ryan with his homework submission issues.

We covered the following reading and literacy components:

1) 'I Survive' Hurricane Katrina:

Reading Practice (Chap.2): fluency, punctuation intonation, inflectional endings, articulation, enunciation, decoding, and comprehension

2) Use of his Translator for story comprehension and pronunciation of challenging vocabulary

3) Decoding: sounding out words, mastering repetitive or familiar words, 

4) Lesson 1, Task 1 - Homework - Let's Make a Difference:

Mind Map: 'How I Am a Good Citizen!'

For HOMEWORK, can Ryan please complete the following 3 assignments:

1) Lesson 1 - Task 2 - Homework - Phonics/Spelling

2) Lesson 1 - Task 1 - Homework - Let's Make a Difference - P.334-337

Read & Record - vocaroo.com - Pages: 334-337

3) Add 5 more words to his dictionary. Include the following:

a: write the word

b: write the Chinese translation

c: use the word in a sentence

d: write a synonym for the word
