Dear Michael's parents,

Michael was very excited to talk about his friend's dog today in class. It is very nice to hear how much he enjoys dogs and animals. Michael is such a sweet and intelligent boy.

For today's lesson, we reviewed Michael's homework and his Anchor Chart binder. We also covered Lesson 14 - Task 1 - U5L10 - In Class - Government Rules.

We focused on the following literacy concepts and strategies:

1) Pre-reading strategies: prediction, identification, text-to-self and text-to-world connections

2) Key/New vocabulary - translations, definitions, and synonyms

3) Reading strategies: context clues, fluency, decoding, text features, and comprehension

4) Genre: Expository (Informational) Text

5) Text Feature: special print (color, highlighted, bold), title, subtitles, captions, photographs, illustrations, glossary, index, and table of contents (author, title, subtitles, chapters, pages, and sometimes illustrator)

6) Homonyms and Homophones

7) Cause and Effect Chart
