- Homework has been uploaded.

[展开全文]

Topic: Financial Literacy

Concepts

- budget: A budget is a spending plan based on income and expenses. In other words, it's an estimate of how much money you'll make and spend over a certain period of time, such as a month or year. (Or, if you're accounting for the incoming and outgoing money of everyone in your household, that's a family budget.)

- comparison shopping: A comparison shopping website, sometimes called a price comparison website, price analysis tool, comparison shopping agent, shopbot, aggregator or comparison shopping engine, is a vertical search engine that shoppers use to filter and compare products based on price, features, reviews and other criteria.

Vocabulary

- waste:

use or expend carelesslyextravagantly, or to no purpose.

"we can't afford to waste electricity"

Grammar

An adverb tells more about a verb. Some adverbs tell how about the verb. Many adverbs end in -ly.

A preposition comes before a noun or a pronoun. Some prepositions are in, about, at, from, with, to, and by.

A prepositional phrase is a group of words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun.

A prepostional phrase can also tell how about the verb. She saved money by sticking to her budget.

Topic: What is money about?

Money is a mode of payment accepted by both sellers and buyers for goods and services. Money is what we give in return when we buy stuff like food, clothes, house, groceries, etc. We give money in return for purchasing anything. This is a simple trade or exchange.

Vocabulary

- currency: a system of money in general use in a particular country.

"the dollar was a strong currency"

- mint: a place where money is coined, especially under state authority.

"die links between coins indicate that they were made at the same mint"

- invented: create or design (something that has not existed before); be the originator of.

"he invented an improved form of the steam engine"

- purchase: acquire (something) by paying for it; buy.

"Mr Gill spotted the manuscript at a local auction and purchased it for £1,500"

- record: set down in writing or some other permanent form for later reference.

"they were asked to keep a diary and record everything they ate or drank"

- worth: the level at which someone or something deserves to be valued or rated.

"they had to listen to every piece of gossip and judge its worth"

Grammar

- paticipial adjectives (e.g. worn out, torn): Some adjectives have two forms. For example, "bored" and "boring". These are called participial adjectives. A participle is a word that can act as a verb or an adjective. In this lesson, we are mainly looking at when these words are used as adjectives.

Homework:

[展开全文]

Today, we reviewed the homework. Ryan refined his knowledge of adjectives:

comparative adjectives

- The city is bigger than the village

superlative adjectives

- It is the biggest city in the world.

Also, Ryan worked on his reading comprehension by reading two stories and answering questions about those stories.

Ryan learned new vocabulary and new concepts:

- sled

- how does dog sledding work?

The homework has been uploaded.

[展开全文]

For today's lesson, we discussed terms such as fossil and archeology. Ryan expanded his knowledge of ancient plant and animal remains and he learned for the first time it seems the meaning of the words T. rex.

In terms of grammar, Ryan learned how to use adjectives of comparison and superlative adjectives. As a means of elucidating these concepts, we looked at the different heights of basketball players.

The homework is already uploaded and Ryan will need to complete the adjectives worksheet in its entirety.

[展开全文]

Today, we learned about other sources of energy. We reviewed vocabulary like "windmill". The homework is below:

[展开全文]

Today, we learned about wind power:

"Wind energy is the movement of air, harnessed to produce electricity or power machinery. Wind energy has been used to pump water for centuries, and wind farms have powered generators for years. At this wind farm near Wasco, Oregon, United States, a windmill drives an underground water pump, while wind turbines drive generators to feed the local electricity grid."

In terms of grammar, we learned about the indefinite articles (a, an) and the definite article (the). Moreover, Ryan learned the difference between the grammatical terms singular and plural and he applied this knowledge to the demonstrative pronouns that, this, those, and these.

The homework is below:

[展开全文]

Ryan upgraded his knowledge of how to use commas. Also, today we discovered that Ryan has a firm grasp on grammatical concepts such as "verb", "noun", and "adjective". One area in which Ryan could improve is reading comprehension. One reason for Ryan's weak performance on reading comprehension is because he is not taking enough time to read and reread the text carefully. The homework has been uploaded to the platform.

[展开全文]

Today, we went over the homework, with special focus on the writing part. Next, we discussed adjectives and the nouns that they describe. Then, we reread a story that Ryan had previously read with another teacher and we discussed it in detail in order to make sure that Ryan understood it correctly. The homework is uploaded.

[展开全文]

Ryan and I went over the homework in detail because I wanted to make sure that he understood the readings properly. We had a great discussion about different types of trees and their functions. Ryan seems to be improving a bit in his reading skills. Soon we will start to learn IPA and phonics. The homework is below:

[展开全文]

Ryan continues to work hard and he consistently completes his homework. We are planning on learning IPA so that his pronunciation can improve as this remains an issue for Ryan. Today, we reviewed his homework while paying special attention to how well Ryan uses pronouns. Also, we reviewed his writing as well as his ability to use quotation marks appropriately.

[展开全文]

We went over pronunciation practice today as well as vocabulary words such as "thread" and "sewing". Most importantly, we went over Ryan's writing and Ryan was able to find some of his own errors. Lastly, we learned about how rules can keep the society safe.

[展开全文]

Ryan learned so much today! I believe that one of the most important things that Ryan learned today was how to answer a question properly and part of that involves understanding what the question is asking. We also learned the meaning of words like "homophone" and I was able to help Ryan pronounce the word "Molly". One breakthrough that I had today is that I realized that Ryan would benefit very much from pronunciation lessons. In future classes, I plan on teaching Ryan the IPA system in order to help him with his reading pronunciation skills.

[展开全文]

Ryan did a wonderful job as always! He is curious and now he feels more comfortable asking questions and taking charge of the learning process. Today, we read two stories about what regular people can do to reduce harm on the planet Earth. We discussed how we can transform trash to treasures. We learned new vocabulary words such as "biodegradable" and "sail". For homework, he needs to answer the questions from the "Doing Our Part" story.

Dear Ryan's parents,

Ryan worked very hard once again throughout today's lesson!

Ryan struggled with his reading today, especially with his decoding of familar words. He said he was tired today, which explains his reading difficulties.

I've encouraged him to continue reading at home and at school so that his reading skills continue to improve. He said he will.

Keep up the good work, Ryan!

For today's lesson, we focused on Ryan's reading skills, once again.

Unfortunately, Ryan did not submit his homework for his Dictionary assignment as well as his Grammar assignment. He said he will contact Ms. Ling to help and I will also contact Ms. Ling to help Ryan with his homework submission issues.
